Sign up for an AI tool
If your organization already has a team account with Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini, use that. If not, all three offer free tiers you can start with today.
Any of them will work. Claude and ChatGPT are the most popular for the kind of work we focus on here.
A note on data and privacy +
Most AI platforms use your conversations to train their models by default. Paid plans typically let you turn this off. If you're working with proprietary brand data, product feeds, or anything sensitive, check with your team before using a free personal account.
Get a feel for it
Before using a skill, take a minute to try the tool on its own. Ask it something simple, like "Explain how coffee is decaffeinated" or "Help me plan a weekend trip to Austin." Try a follow-up question. Get comfortable with how the conversation works.
Most people plateau here, treating AI as a better search engine. The next two steps are where it gets genuinely useful for your work.
Sign up for SkillShelf
SkillShelf is free. When you create an account, you get a place to store your brand context (voice, positioning, templates) so every skill you run produces output that sounds like your brand, not generic AI.
You can browse and use skills without an account, but the output is significantly better with your brand context loaded in.
Set up your Brand Foundation
Once you're signed in, the onboarding flow walks you through creating your brand voice profile and content templates. These are "foundation documents" that every skill on SkillShelf can use to produce on-brand output.
Create them once and they improve every skill you run. You can always refine them later.
